Late qualifiers miss out

IT WASN’T a case of better late than never for a number of CARIFTA Games hopefuls.

Some athletes belatedly made the qualifying standard for the April 15-17 Games in Curacao during the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championships (BSSAC), but have not been rewarded for their performances.

Christ Church Foundation’s high jumper Yuriko Harewood and quarter-miler Deshon Trent were not included in the 28-member squad announced last Friday despite qualifying and coming close on a number of previous occasions.

Competing in the high jump on the final day of BSSAC, Harewood sailed over the bar at 1.70 metres, which is the required mark for Under-20 girls. (EZS)
