UNCAPPED rookie fast bowlers Rachid O’Neale and Preston McSween have been called up for the Barbados Pride’s ninth-round day-night cricket match against Trinidad Tobago Red Force in the Digicel Regional Four-Day Tournament at Kensington Oval, starting tomorrow from 3 p.m.
Seasoned 33-year-old YMPC batsman Ryan Wiggins has also been surprisingly selected in the 13-man squad, which includes another newcomer in Wildey’s stylish 22-year-old batsman Aaron Jones.
O’Neale, who plays for Elite Division champions St Catherine, replaces the injured pacer Keon Harding while Grenadian McSween has been around the Barbados Pride set-up for the past two years as one of two overseas draft selectees.
Wiggins, a free-scoring right-handed batsman, who led the batting charts in last year’s Super50 Cup one-day competition has never played first-class cricket.
He averages 25.28 in 10 List A matches and 15.36 in 16 Twenty20 matches but gets the nod over promising Wildey batsman Zachary McCaskie, who impressed in the three-day trials during the break in the regional tournament.
Top-order batsman Kyle Corbin and all-rounders Kenroy Williams and Justin Greaves have also been recalled in a new-look side.
Established players, Shai Hope, Ashley Nurse, Jonathan Carter, Miguel Cummins and Jason Holder are all on duty with the West Indies’ one-day side for the three-match series against Pakistan, also starting tomorrow in Guyana. (EZS)
