FIRST it was franchise cricket. Now it’s the turn of football.
Players across the region have been given a boost to play the game on a global scale with the launch of the Islands Cup Open 2017 tournament.
Chairman of the franchise, Chris Anderson, said the tournament was their way of giving players with talent the opportunity they otherwise would not have because of low FIFA rankings.
“Basically, it is about profiling our young players in the Caribbean. It is very difficult for the players from most of the Caribbean islands that are ranked so low in FIFA, to really get their fair opportunity . . . . There is a void, so this project will facilitate that and create the platform for allowing these players the greater opportunity to participate on the global stage. (RA)
