SINCE DROPPING THREE FLOORS while travelling in an elevator at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in February, things have not been looking up for Natalie Brathwaite.
At the time, the 30-year old was 30 weeks pregnant when she and several others boarded the lift before it plunged to the ground floor.
After the fall on February 20, the mother of seven complained of pain in the back. Today, she says she is still feeling the effects.
She said she had been only able to complete a week of training at the Career Development Institute to further her studies, but that had now come to a halt.
“I at a standstill. I was trying to make a little start in my life so I could go somewhere. I started doing classes but I had to stop going to class and I can’t do certain things for myself,” the still-expecting Brathwaite told the DAILY NATION yesterday.
She said she was only able to pay a portion of the $1 000 required for the classes, but since she could not get around as much, it had been even more difficult to come up with the funds or even attend the classes.
Brathwaite said the QEH had not yet made it clear whether it would be compensating her for the malfucntion, but she made it clear she was not looking for handouts or an easy way out of her trouble. (TG)
