Cybercriminals ‘a step ahead’

AS THE REGION GRAPPLES with cybercrime, criminals appear to be a few clicks ahead of authorities.

According to the Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Brathwaite, many countries have been playing catch-up as offenders have been working harder at accessing systems faster than the countries have been able to prevent them from doing so.

He was speaking at the Hilton Barbados last week where he addressed the opening of the 3rd Americas Working Group Meeting On Cybercrime For Heads Of Units, where he said that a lack of resources played a big role in Barbados’ tardiness.

“Cybercrime is a serious challenge for us given our resource capacity or lack thereof, so our challenge then is accelerated because we lack the necessary resources to address the issue as we would like,” Brathwaite said. (TG)
