A 19-YEAR-OLD was given 200 hours of community service on Monday after appearing on three drug charges.
Xavier Addison Carter, of Browne’s Road, Sargeant’s Village, Christ Church, admitted to trafficking, possessing and supplying offences which occurred on April 8.
The District “A” Magistrates’ Court heard that police pursued Carter after he ran away from them and then saw him place the 23.7 grammes of cannabis in a concrete block.
Defence attorney at law Mohia Ma’at said that what set his client apart from others who usually appeared on drug charges was that he had a number of CXCs.
He said it showed that Carter did not waste time but had taken advantage of his education opportunity. However, counsel conceded it was unfortunate that Carter found himself in such a “tight spot”.
“What is the difference between a cow that doesn’t give milk, and a cow that gives milk and kicks down the bucket?” Magistrate Douglas Frederick queried.
“At least he’s giving milk . . . . We can help him not to kick down the bucket again,” Mohia responded.
The magistrate said that even though a person might have CXCs, “with drugs you’ll be lost”.
“Today is your day to change your life,” he said before adjourning the matter until July 28 for an update on Carter’s community service. (TKS)
