POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING the circumstances surrounding an accident which occurred at Dukes Bottom, St Thomas around 3:15 p.m. today.
Twenty-one people were injured when a minibus, car and van collided.
The minibus was driven by a 30-year-old man, the van by a 39-year-old man and the car by a 44-year-old woman.
The drivers of the car and van had to be freed from their vehicles by personnel from the Barbados Fire Service.
Many of the injured were treated on the scene but five people suffered injuries which were deemed serious.
Two of them were immediately transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance.
The accident triggered the mass casualty response which included two fire tenders and 13 fire officers under the command of divisional officer Errol Gaskin.
Four doctors and staff from the QEH’s Accident & Emergency Department also responded Dr David Byer taking the lead.
Two ambulances from the QEH and one from the Barbados Defence Force were also on the scene. (PR/NB)
