Boxing fix needed

FORMER OLYMPIC BOXER John Kellman is advocating for change in the Barbados Boxing Association (BBA).

“It seems to me the coaches here are teaching the fighters to be one-trick ponies. They’re just teaching them to go out and hit hard, but not every fighter is a hard-hitting fighter,” he charged during a recent interview in St Silas, where he is currently vacationing.

The Canadian-based resident is well known for having thrown his glove at the referee after he lost his bout during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

“The fighters that come out of Barbados, I don’t think they’re getting the best training or the best representation,” he said.
