PTA head against cellphones

THE HEAD OF the Barbados National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (BNCPTA) remains firmly set against the use of cellphones in schools.

In fact, association president Shone Gibbs wants the ban maintained.

“We have some fundamental issues within the education system right now that need to be addressed, that need to be fixed in terms of indiscipline. To add the cellphones in the pool right now would not necessarily allow us to see the benefits that can be derived from such,” he said at a panel discussion on Saturday at Christ Church Foundation School.

Gibbs said action must also be taken on how to deal with the inappropriate use of the technology, noting that some other jurisdictions had been forced to withdraw the measure after introducing it. (WILLCOMM)
