Swimming lessons first step to glory

THE BARBADOS WATER Polo Club is continuing to make strides – this time with the introduction of its learn-to-swim-and-play programme.

The programme, conceptualised by head coach Ryan Forde, is scheduled to begin its first phase tomorrow and will run for ten weeks ending July 29. It caters to children aged three to 12.

“Just like in any sport, it is always good to feed off of other sports, and in Barbados, instead of the segregation in multiple aquatic or multiple track sports, the youngsters need to be able to focus on multiple sports at once because it helps build them in their main sport,” Forde said during a media launch last Friday at the Barbados Olympic Association’s Wildey headquarters.

While a sport is usually seen as an individual event, he said swimming and water polo go hand in hand and more people needed to embrace the multisport concept. (RA)
