TWO OF BARBADOS’ top international surfers Chelsea Tuach and Josh Burke have made an early impact at the World Surf League’s Qualification Series in Japan.
Competing at Shida Beach in the 3000 Chiba Open, Tuach was unstoppable on her way to a quarter-final berth against Australian powerhouse Phillipa Anderson.
Burke also advanced to round two of the Ichinomiya 6000 after taking a heat win with an overall heat total of 13.10. The heat started out with Burke catching his first wave with just 11 minutes remaining when he dropped a 6.67 which was the highest wave score of the heat. In the remaining minute, he posted 6.43 to seal the victory.
Tuach was even more impressive, winning all of her heats going into the quarter-finals with her powerful, fluid and smart surfing in the tricky and inconsistent beach break conditions. (PR/EZS)
