Fishing life

FOR ERIC BAILEY and Donnie Fenty, fishing is life.

The pair was spotted in Newcastle, St John, putting together some fish pots in preparation for their almost daily expeditions on and under the waves.

“We catch all kinds of pot fish as there is no season for them, so we just make the pots and put them down. We put in bait fish and leave them for anywhere from three days to a week. For us, fishing is an everyday thing; fishing is life,”said Bailey.

In addition, Fenty takes diving gear and a spear gun to do some underwater hunting, mainly for barracuda and lionfish, which they assured is tasty.

The men said the best wood – the only wood really – to frame a fish pot either comes from the tamarind tree or from sea grape trees as these woods sink in water. (CA)
