NOW: Speak out about the violence

THE HEAD OF the National Organisation of Women (NOW) says society must examine itself in order to understand the behaviour of schoolgirls.

Avelyn Christie, who was re-elected on Saturday, said the causes of the behaviour of girls were not new, but only got more exposure because of technology.

“Oppression for the female today has a different look and address, but the hurt, the struggle and the repercussions are the same,” she said while delivering the president’s report at the biennial general meeting at which she was returned unopposed.

“And because technology has precipitated a world of little privacy, much private pain is constantly played out in public spaces.” (PR/AC)
