BUDGET DAY 2017 sparked far more interest than in the past two years, judging from the activity inside and outside the Parliament Buildings yesterday.
One hour before Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler was scheduled to deliver the Budget speech, supporters of both major political parties stood outside the main gate cheering on their favoured parliamentarians, occasionally jeering those they disliked, and making their voices heard on issues that concern them.
Unlike last year when there was hardly an onlooker on the first day, women in blue T-shirts emblazoned with the words “Childless Women Have A Vote” stood together, vocal in support for Opposition Leader Mia Mottley.
Next to them another small group of women who represented the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) wore white T-shirts with the words “FACTS” printed boldly across the front. (GC)
