GROS ISLET – The West Indies suffered a scare before defeating Afghanistan by four wickets in a low scoring second One-Day International at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St Lucia yesterday to level the three-match cricket series at 1-1.

After losing Friday’s opener by 63 runs, the West Indies looked a lot more energetic in the field with the bowlers combining to dismiss Afghanistan for a paltry 135 in 37.3 overs.

In reply, the West Indies were steered to victory by wicket-keeper/batsman Shai Hope, who made a responsible unbeaten 48 off 77 balls with three fours. The Caribbean cricketers finished on 138 for six in 39.2 overs with captain Jason Holder not out on 11 off 10 balls.

Opener Evin Lewis also contributed a breezy 33 off 36 balls with five fours at the top of the innings. (CMC)
