RUSSELL ELCOCK navigated wet conditions to pip 30-odd participants to emerge victorious in the Barbados Cycling Union’s (BCU) criterium on the Garrison circuit.

Junior rider Luke Staffner was leading the pack coming down to the last two laps but Elcock stormed through to finish ahead of Joshua Kelly, who had to settle for the silver medal with Gregory Vanderpool, third.

Staffner went on to win the junior division, ahead of Kyle Gill with Dillon Gray third.

Thirty-two cyclists participated in the race. The oldest participant was 61-year-old Ronald Harding, who did not finish, while the youngest participant was seven-year-old Jonah Kelly, who won the BMX category. (RA)
