Guns ‘coming from the US’

MORE ILLEGAL GUNS are coming into Barbados than ever before, and the United States of America has been identified as the main source of the increased firepower.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Tyrone Griffith (below), told the SUNDAY SUN in a telephone interview that gun-running and drug-trafficking in Barbados have proven to be inextricably linked, and though firearms can originate from regional islands as well, intelligence has shown most illegal firearms here were smuggled in from the US. police-symposium-griffith

Griffith said a lack of collaboration by local agencies, not enough information from the public, and Barbados’ pourous coastline continue to be bugbears in the Royal Barbados Police Force’s efforts to stem the landing of firearms into the hands of deviant Barbadian youth.
