Three drug-accused remanded

TWO FISHERMEN AND A GOLDSMITH were remanded after appearing in Oistins Magistrates’ Court accused of having more than $2 million in drugs.

David Ian Brathwaite, 64, of 3rd Avenue Parris Gap, Westbury Road, St Michael; Michael Emmanuel Yarde, 42, of Drax Hall Jump, St George, and goldsmith Abdool Sameer Manan, 37, of No. 49 Tushen East Bank Essiquibo, Georgetown, Guyana, were not required to plead.

The 12 counts read were by Magistrate Elwood Watts.

Yarde and Brathwaite were charged with four counts each of possession, supplying, trafficking and importation in relation to cocaine and cannabis. 

Manan faces two separate counts of trafficking cocaine and cannabis.

All three are charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine and cannabis.

The cocaine was said to weigh 50 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of $2 050 000 while the cannabis weighed 165 pounds with a street value of $160 000.

All three men will return to court on July 28. (TKS)
