Work output challenge

IF THERE IS ONE THING to make a Barbadian construction worker more productive, it is more money in his pay packet and a good relationship with his boss.

On the other hand, workers in the financial services sector say unfair and unsupportive management will kill their drive to be productive.

The findings have been outlined in recently published research by Dr Dwayne Devonish, a senior lecturer in management science at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill.

Titled Key Research Findings On Chief Productivity Challenges, Concerns And Barriers In Barbados’ Private Sector, Devonish’s paper examined the economic sectors construction, manufacturing, wholesale and retail, transport, storage and communications, financial services, accommodation and restaurants, and other services.
