ORLANDO HUSBANDS was a special guest when proud parents, teachers and sponsors saluted the winners of the Massy United Insurance Primary and Secondary Schools Chess competitions last Saturday.

The Central American and Caribbean Under-20 chess champion was guest of honour at the Divi Southwinds Hotel, as Massy United Insurance feted the award winners.

Husbands, who took part in the competitions during his days at The Lodge School, helped present the top awards.

Harrison College were the senior champions, and Milton Lynch “A” the junior champions.

Harrison College captured the Under-20 division, earning 49 out of 60 points from their six matches. The team of Yu Tien Poon, Nitin Mahtani, Gabriella Cumberbatch, Paul Mordesur and Anush Pais dominated, with Poon and Mahtani winning all of their games.

Showing impressive depth, 2015 champions Milton Lynch “A” (above) notched three impressive victories of the final day to claim the title in the six-round championship.

Milton Lynch “A”, comprising Christian Gill, Kimahri Holder, Tequon Pinder, Kevion Perch, Nicodi Gibson and Damari Layne, brushed aside People’s Cathedral “B” 10-0 in the fourth round, Wills Primary 8-2 in the fifth round, and St Jude’s 8-2 in the final round to finish comfortable winners.

Massy United Insurance account executive Charlia Warner-Franklin praised the participants.

“These students continue to show the talent that we have in our island and for Orlando Husbands, who once stood here on this podium receiving a prize as a student, to be back here as the CAC champion makes us at Massy United Insurance very proud,” she said. (PR)
