Big bucks spent on ball bash

THE PROMENADE DANCE has quickly caught on in Barbados.

Known as a prom and also referred to as a formal or ball, it is usually a semi-formal dance or gathering of high school students, typically held near the end of the last year of school.

In Barbados, a graduation ceremony is a normal affair although some of them are more elaborate than others.

More recently, however, some secondary schools have also been planning these special proms at hotels and other venues, featuring the young men and women coming out in their evening best, events which often cost a pretty penny – thousands of dollars.  (CA)
