THE BAJAN GEMS ended the Netball World Youth Cup with a workmanlike 54-42 win over Northern Ireland yesterday to finish in 15th spot.

After shaking off a 7-8 deficit, Barbados held leads of 13-11, 27-22 and 45-29 to earn their second win at the tournament.

Shonica Wharton led the attack with 44 goals from 49 attempts while captain Sheniqua Thomas scored seven from ten before allowing reserve Zakiya Kirton to hit three impressive long shots from four attempts.

The Gems exhibited superior court craft, with Thomas enjoying a tremendous all-round game while Shonte Seale seemed to be only missing a cape as she seemed to materialise in midair to intercept many passes. (KB)
