Sewage issue flares up again

THE VEXING ISSUE of the South Coast Sewage Treatment Plant came to the fore again as a number of manholes overflowed and caused some measure of discomfort to residents and businesses as a result of an electrical problem yesterday.

Reporting “we are trying to repair it” director of the Barbados Water Authority’s (BWA) Waste Water Recovery Programme, Patricia Inniss, said her department had spoken to those who might have been affected by the development.

She could not promise how soon the matter would be rectified but acknowledged that it was critical that it be resolved quickly, given the long holiday weekend.

“You would appreciate that as soon as that pump has gone back on-line it would take an hour or two before the levels subside,” she said in a media interview last night. (JS)
