IN SPITE OF the criticism bashment soca has received, radio programme director Ronnie Clarke is giving it two thumbs up.
Over the years, bashment soca has been a topical public debate, especially on call-in programmes. It is seen as negatively influencing the behaviour of young people with lewd lyrics.
However, Starcom Network’s programme director Ronnie Clarke played down the critiques about the calypso subgenre.
Speaking at the sidelines of a presentation of $15 000 to People’s Monarch Sanctuary at Cave Shepherd Broad Street on Wednesday, Clarke said that bashment soca was a necessary element of the Crop Over season as it attracted people to the festival who may not otherwise be interested in it. (SB)
