Soca queen Alison, Bag newest ambassadors

THE SOCA QUEEN and the Bag are the island’s two newest cultural ambassadors.

Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley announced last night that Alison Hinds, former lead singer of Square One, and ten-time calypso king Red Plastic Bag would be joining Rihanna in pushing the island’s culture abroad.

Lashley was speaking at the official opening ceremony of CARIFESTA XIII at Kensington Oval, where he lauded Rihanna and Bob Marley for putting the region on the world’s map.

rpbHe had earlier said that pushing CARIFESTA as a world renowned mega festival would entail using the “comparative advantage afforded us by our natural, cultural and human assets for economic development”. (HLE)
