King’s ace

THE KING OF SWING probably won’t be going for many winners today.

Bajan ace Darian King is looking to play a lot of high percentage tennis against Daniel Nguyen, figuring that heavy top spin should create problems for the ultra-aggressive American in their first round match of the US Open qualifying rounds.

It’s just a part of the game plan that King was working on during yesterday’s practice session ahead of today’s start to his third straight appearance at Flushing Meadows.

“It looks like he takes the ball early as he plays close to the baseline and I think he hits flat so maybe he gives me more errors than I am hoping for and that means it’s about playing high percentage tennis, hitting the ball high over the net and making it physical to draw some mistakes out of him,” said King of facing the 347th-ranked 26-year-old.
