QUEEN’S COLLEGE STUDENT Shanae Boyce came off of the bench to lead former queens Deacons to a five sets win over UWI Blackbirds when the Goddard Enterprises Limited senior volleyball knockouts continued on Monday night.
In the first of a women’s double header at the Kensington Bond, Boyce, 16, entered the fray with the Blackbirds soaring with two sets in their grasp. Serving and spiking with a confidence that should embarrass her more experienced teammates, Boyce inspired Deacons to a 22-25, 19-25, 26-24, 26-24, 15-12 victory.
The Blackbirds, who played unbeaten in Division 2 last season were soaring, with the experienced Sharon Bovell and Dania Hamilton pounding Deacons.
Stand-in coach Valmay Stapleton all but gave up as she sounded like a stuck record in issuing the same instructions to seemingly stone-deaf players. (KB)
