A FLOOD WARNING is in effect for Barbados until 5 p.m.
The Barbados Meteorological Services is monitoring the progress of Hurricane Jose which was cantered near latitude 16.3 °N, longitude 57.1°W or about 415miles (670 km) to the east-southeast of the northern Leewards at 11 a.m. today.
This system poses no direct threat to Barbados however it has weakened the pressure gradient across Barbados and the southern Windwards during the day.
As a result, a very light wind regime, strong daytime heating and an abundance of low level moisture have resulted in some localised shower and thunderstorm activity across some sections of Barbados.
Some flash flooding is likely to occur within the next few hours. Thus, a flood warning has been issued and will remain in effect until 5 p.m.
Rainfall accumulations of at least 50-75 mm (2-3 inches) are possible. Residents in flood prone areas should exercise caution and remain on the alert. A flood warning means that some flooding is already occurring or is likely to occur.
This warning will be up dated if conditions warrant. (PR)
