LIAT starts relief flights to St Maarten and Tortola

ST JOHN’S – LIAT has started limited flight operations into the destinations of St Maarten and Tortola, British Virgin Islands which were severely affected by the passage of Hurricane Irma.

The Princess Juliana International Airport in St Maarten and the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport in Tortola suffered extensive damage and at this time are closed to commercial operations.

The relief flights, which started today, will see LIAT only transporting passengers out of these destinations.

The airline will not carry any commercial passengers into these destinations.

This is in accordance with the conditions established by the authorities in St Maarten and the BVI that prohibits the entry of commercial passengers.

LIAT will continue to assist the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency in moving personnel and relief supplies into the affected area.

Passengers in the affected destinations have been asked to contact LIAT’s Reservations Department at 1888-844-5428 or 1268-480-5601 or via email at [email protected] for more information on the schedule for these flights.

The management and staff of LIAT vowed to continue to work to support the people of St Maarten and the British Virgin Islands, especially at this difficult time. (PR/NB)
