HEAVY SHOWERS JUST before midday doused the court at the National Tennis Centre and forced officials to use today’s reserve day to finish the top of the table Americas Zone Group 2 Davis Cup tie between Barbados and Venezuela.

Venezuela’s No.1 Ricardo Rodriguez was leading the host country’s wonder boy Darian King 7-5, 1-2 in the opening reverse singles, when rain, a spill-off from Hurricane Maria, pounded the court at 11:35 a.m.

Colombia referee Miguel Ternera made inspections at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. but the steady rain late in the evening severely impeded the drying process.

Just after 5 p.m., an attempt was made to restart the match but when more rain came with the players about to commence warming up. Play is now slated to start this morning at 10. (MK)
