Cancer ‘in young women too’

Breast cancer is no longer only associated with older women.

In fact, said Pink Ribbon coordinator of the Breast Screening Programme of the Barbados Cancer Society, Betty Lynch, younger women are being diagnosed with the disease.

Lynch was speaking yesterday as a planned outreach exercise with the Girl Guides and the Barbados Defence Force through the streets of Bridgetown had to be postponed because of heavy rains. The Bridgetown Initiative Pink Ribbon Drive now takes place next Saturday.

“We are finding that women are getting breast cancer at an earlier age and I think the research is still out [on] why,” she said. (HLE)
