Two men who pleaded guilty to drug charges have another nine months to pay fines of $30 000 each or they will face jail time.
They are Winfield St Auban Lowe, a 51-year-old police describe as a Bajan Yankee, and Barbadian Tito Mardonna O’Neil Barrow, 31, of Block 1G, Bottom Close, Wildey, St Michael.
Barrow and Lowe were separately charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.
The two men arrived from New York and their luggage was searched by Customs officials after they cleared immigration at the Grantley Adams International Airport on October 30, 2017.
Police say two brown taped packages and five transparent vacuum sealed packages containing cannabis, were discovered in two suitcases carried by Lowe.
Thirty-eight vacuum sealed packages containing cannabis were discovered in two suitcases carried by Barrow.
Police were informed and Barrow and Lowe were arrested and charged.
Lowe was in possession of 25 ¾ pounds of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $103 000 while Barrow was in possession of 26 ½ pounds with a street value $106 000.
The two appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District “C” Magistrates’ Court today and admitted to the offences.
For the offence of unlawful possession on cannabis, they were fined $15 000 each to be paid in nine months. Failure to pay will result in two years in prison.
They were fined a further $15 000 for the offence of importation. This also has to be paid in nine months or Barrow and Lowe will spend two years in prison.
They were convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the offence of possession with intent to supply and reprimanded and discharged for the offence of trafficking. (PR/NB)
