Commuters across Barbados were left trying to figure out how to get to work and school this morning after workers of the Transport Board went on strike.
Shortly before 6 a.m. this morning, the state-owned public bus agency issued a statement via their Facebook page which stated that “unfortunately the workers of the Transport Board have decided to withdraw their services this morning.”

Management of the board apologised for the “inconveniences being experienced by you the commuters by this action” and advised them to make “alternative travel arrangements to reach your destinations this morning.”
According to radio reports, the issue stems from workers’ dissatisfaction with a lack of resources. Last Friday, the WEEKEND NATION reported that the Transport Board’s aging fleet of buses was under pressure, with less than half of its buses on the road on any day. Marketing and Communications Manager Lynda Holder had admitted that of the more than 275 buses owned by the Board, around 110 were capable of being used on a daily basis.
