BARBADOS women’s national footballers have booked their spot in this year’s Windward Islands Football Association (WIFA) Women’s Football Tournament by invitation.

Four teams – hosts St Vincent, Grenada, Barbados and St Lucia – will face off against each other from next Tuesday until November 27 at Victoria Park in Castries.

Because of Hurricane Maria’s ravages, Dominica has pulled out of the tournament.

According to Barbados Football Association’s technical director Ahmed Mohamed, the players have been training since March and are ready to showcase their skill.

He is also confident they have what it takes to walk away with a victory.

“They were originally preparing for the CONCACAF qualifiers, but unfortunately that was cancelled. In an effort to get them playing games, we have accepted the offer to play in this year’s Women’s WIFA tournament to allow them to get some much-needed experience and keep them in shape,” he said.

The “Bajan Belles” in September defeated Turks and Caicos in two international friendlies at the Wildey AstroTurf, 10-0 and 9-0. Before that they were defeated 2-1 by Martinique in another international friendly at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex in April, after having not played a game in over two years. (RA)
