Tyrease Holder smashed his way to the top of the KFC/Berger Paints/Cave Shepherd Under-13 Road Tennis Invitational yesterday.

The Lester Vaughan student defeated Ahijah Blunt of St Martin’s Mangrove 18- 21, 21-10, 21-13 at the KFC courts Warrens to take the boys’ title.

Blunt, with his superb back hand technique, won the first game at 18 but Holder made a grand comeback to almost hand his opponent, who only mustered ten points, a sow in the second game.

From the second game, Blunt’s game changed somewhat as he unfortunately suffered from a number of awkward bounces.

Holder also forced him into making a series of errors early in the third game to lead 7-2, although Blunt fought back to take an 11-8 lead.

But Holder again stormed back and finished strongly with some outstanding shots to take the title. (RG)
