Six years after an incident involving the Barbados Light & Power and Flow Barbados, two sisters are accusing the companies of only caring about their bottom line.

Debra Collymore and Sandra Parris were both employed at the Emmanuel Baptist Church on President Kennedy Drive, St Michael, at the time when Pastor Vincent Wood contacted the two companies about the low-hanging wire before the January 26, 2011 incident.

“We heard an explosion and went outside to see what happened. We saw a container truck had pulled down the wire from the pole; but the guy drove off before we could get the number plates. Debra said she was going inside before something happened and almost before she could finish her sentence a minibus passed through,” Parris recalled.

Parris said the wire, still attached to the church, somehow got tangled in the minibus, stretching taut and getting dragged across the churchyard. It struck her, throwing her to the ground, resulting in scratches and bruises about her body. She said she was paying more attention to her sister being lifted off her feet and only recognised her own injuries later. (CA)
