The Rotary Club of Barbados South’s Classical Best of Youth Christmas concert is an event of the yuletide season to which patrons look forward eagerly, and this year’s show once again brought many lovers of classical music to the Frank Collymore Hall.
The Barbados National Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of director Joy Knight-Lynch presented a picture of enthusiastic young musicians performing on a well-lit stage for an audience supporting them all the way with their cheers and applause. The Barbados Junior Orchestra, as well as pannist Mark Forde and young soloists Tia Corbin, Trinity Clarke and Denesha Fergusson, featured prominently in the concert entitled “Pan & A Minor.”
The programme featured variety with Christmas standards, Caribbean pan music by a master, Lord Kitchener, as well as arrangements by music teacher, composer, arranger and pianist Roger Gittens.
The concert was under the patronage of acting Central bank Governor Cleviston Haynes and patrons included Hunte’s Gardens owner Anthony Hunte who does not miss this show every year; Rotarians such as Vivian-Anne Gittens and her husband Don; music teacher Margaret Williams and her husband Theo; well known Barbadian soprano Amanda Fields and a supporter of the arts in Barbados Doreen Tobor, accompanied by friends.
At the reception in the foyer after, talk was all about the young, promising musical talent that Joy Knight-Lynch is developing. (GC)
