For two years, Richard Ricardo Prescod managed to keep himself out of trouble and jail.
However, the 51-year-old, of St James, was remanded to HMP Dodds yesterday until January 15, after appearing in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.
Prescod, who has many convictions, was not required to plead to the indictable charge of unlawfully wounding Torrence Odle on December 15. Odle was stabbed while in Suttle Street, The City.
Prosecutor Sergeant Rudy Gill, in objecting to bail, told Magistrate Douglas Frederick that the accused had “a colourful list of antecedents which spoke to violence”, and that the victim was still hospitalised.
He argued the incident occurred in broad daylight and society needed to be protected from people such as Prescod.
In his bail application, Prescod said he had not been in trouble for the past two years.
“Since the last time I left jail, I have been working and keeping myself out of trouble. I don’t interfere with anybody,” he said. “I have been trying very hard and I have been working very honest.”
Magistrate Frederick told him that while he had kept clear of the law since 2015, the fact that the victim was still hospitalised worked against him.
“We don’t know if the victim is going to take a turn for the worse or a turn for the better. This is a very serious situation.”
He remanded Prescod and told him he would consider granting him bail when he returned, if the victim’s condition improved by then. (RB)
