Charity: Help us to help others

A local charity says it is willing to go the extra mile for the less fortunate in society but wants more support from corporate Barbados.

Denis Warner and Heather Bridgeman of Love At Christmas Foundation, said most of their donations came from upcoming and small businesses, but the older and well-established firms were not as forthcoming. He said their excuse was the current economic climate.

Warner was speaking at a Christmas party held for 50 children at Solidarity House on Saturday.

“If entrepreneurs donated, more charities would be able to expand and do more,” he reasoned. “For instance, Love at Christmas initially started as a charity that facilitated special Christmas programmes for the less fortunate, and we want to help more demographics and different communities across the island throughout the year.”

The organisation is eight years old.

The children were treated to puppetry, dancing, singing and storytelling. They also received pep talks from Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy, who was there on behalf of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, police public relations officer Acting Inspector Roland Cobbler, and Assistant Commissioner Erwin Boyce.

Santa Claus also gave gifts to the children, who ranged in age from 12 months to 15 years. (SB)
