The semi-final line-up in the University of the West Indies/Barbados Cricket Association Inter-Parish Twenty20 cricket competition has been determined.
Sagicor UWI Blackbirds confirmed their place with an easy ten-wicket victory over St Peter Voyagers in the final preliminary match at the 3Ws Oval last Friday night.
The win lifted UWI to the top of Zone ‘A’, joining fellow group winners St Michael Merchants and St John Voyagers as the automatic qualifiers for the semi-finals.
It left the last place to be decided on the best second placed team from the three zones. St James Settlers won out over St Thomas Warriors and Christ Church Dolphins on account of having a superior net run-rate after the teams finished on six points from two victories.
The first semi-final on Wednesday night brings together St John Crusaders and St James Settlers, while UWI Blackbirds and St Michael Merchants clash on Thursday night. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
UWI Blackbirds made light work of St Peter Voyagers, restricting their opponents to 72 in 19.3 overs before completing their target in 9.1 overs without losing a wicket.
The northerners were pegged back by three-wicket hauls from Raymond Bynoe and Aaron Daley, and failed to post a competitive total after they were sent in.
Jermaine Levy and Kavem Hodge inflicted the early damage, grabbing two wickets apiece in reducing St Peter Voyagers to 20 for six, before Shakym Haynes prevented a total rout by scoring 33.
UWI Blackbirds wasted no time in wiping off the target as openers Justin Bramble (39) and Leniko Boucher (23) saw them home without being separated. (HG)
