Alleged con artist remanded

AN ALLEGED FRAUDSTER will ring in the New Year behind bars after being remanded to HMP Dodds yesterday.

That was the fate of Jerome Omar Waterman, 29, of Sisnett Road, Martindales Road, St Michael, when he appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charges of uttering a forged cheque for $1 100 to Fusionz Boutique, as well as intending to defraud Fusionz Boutique of a pair of shoes worth $220 and $880 in cash on June 19, 2017.

Waterman is also accused of trying to defraud the same business of a pair of shoes valued $220, three pairs of slippers costing $225, and $755 on December 23, as well as uttering a forged cheque for $1 200 on that same date.

He was further charged with forging a cheque for $1 100 payable to Ryan Ray Clarke on December 23, and for having a fraudulent Barbados identification card bearing the name Bruce Holder, for use in the course of criminal deception.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Neville Reid objected to bail on the grounds that the matters were of a serious nature, that Waterman had a number of matters before the court and he was on three sets of bail.

Reid added that there were three outstanding warrants for Waterman’s arrest.

Reid said if bail was granted bail, he feared Waterman would not attend court.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick agreed with the prosecutor and remanded the accused until January 24. (RB)
