There has been beefed up protection for prosecutors who take on some of the island’s most vicious criminals.
The security measures that involved the police are part of the steps taken by newly ascended Director of Public Prosecutions Donna Babb-Agard QC for those working in her office. The DPP’s office handles felonies that can put them face to face with some of the island’s hardened murderers, robbers, rapists and burglars.
“I’m not aware that there have been any threats recently to any of our officers and the threats there have been I cannot talk about. Personally as director one of my points of focus is the protection because we are aware of how crime has changed. We are in court every day and we know the particulars of crimes and that certain accused have certain modus operandi,” she said.
However, Babb-Agard who had been acting since July last year and was appointed to the post from January 1, explained that she did not want to say what the security weaknesses were for fear of alerting the public but she had plans for security, all of which did not come to fruition. (AC)
