Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has announced that the 2017-2018 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure will be laid in the House of Assembly tomorrow.
He made the revelation last night at a Democratic Labour Party (DLP) joint branch meeting at Queen’s College, Husbands, St James.
The Estimates have traditionally been laid in March.
Stuart also revealed that the long anticipated strategy to rescue the Barbados economy would soon be up for discussion.
He said the Barbados Sustainability Recovery Plan would also be laid in Parliament.
Stuart explained that the plan came out of last year’s all-day discussion among the three arms of the Social Partnership.
Stuart further noted that he, along with the private sector and the labour movement had all written forewords for the resolution which will address the issues of growth, fiscal sustainability, foreign exchange and our social sectors.
“That is going to be the plan. Social partners have agreed on it. All three sides have agreed to work on it and it is not just cosmetic. We have put in place and made provision for an oversight committee to make sure that continuing oversight is exercised over it so that the timelines and the deadlines can be met and Barbados can be a better place by 2021/22,” he said.
“The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Association participated, the Barbados Workers’ Union participated, private sector association. So we are not as the late Sir James Tudor used to say, we are not blind men in a dark room looking for a black cat. We know whence we have come, we know where we are and we know where we are going and we have the team to take us there,” Stuart added. (SDB Media)
