Drug trafficker sentenced to 12 months in Dodds

A Jamaican national will spend a year at HMP Dodds after pleading guilty to a number of drug-related offences which were committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport on January 30, 2018.  

He is 20-year-old Leon Anthony Davis.

Davis was arrested and charged for unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to supply, trafficking cannabis and importation of cannabis.

He arrived on the island by air from Kingston, Jamaica and having cleared Immigration, he was interviewed by members of the Drug Squad.

He was referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he passed out a total of 35 transparent plastic wrappings containing cannabis.

Davis appeared before Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell in the District “B” Magistrates’ Court today and pleaded guilty the offences.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison for the offence of trafficking and convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the other offences.

The drugs weighed around half a kilogramme and had a street value of $4 000. (PR/NB)
