The Alleyne Bolts stunned their rivals when they won Alleyne School’s Inter-house Athletic Championships with an electrifying performance at the National Stadium yesterday.

They seized the title with a massive 1 074 points, 109 ahead of nearest rivals, former champions Haynes Hawks (Red) with 965 points.

Third and fourth went to the Read Rottweilers (Yellow) and the Cumberbatch Spartans (Green) with 847 and 836 points, respectively.

And Alleyne’s Aydan Auguste led his house to victory when he reached 63 points after competing in eight events in the Under-15 Boys’ Division.

Of those eight he won five events: the 100 metres in 11.99 seconds, the 200 metres in 24.88 seconds, 400 metres in 56.39 seconds, along with 800 metres and the javelin. He was third in the discus.

Alleyne House gained four other divisional titles through Lee-Andre Walker in the Under-20 Boys category, Necoli Payne in the Under-17 Boys Division, Ranaco Browne in the Under-13 Division and Allicia Miller in the Under-15 Division.

Walker, who collected 56 points, took gold in the Under-20 Boys’ 100 metres in 11.30 seconds and silver in the 400 metres in a time of 52.23 seconds.

Payne was second in the Under 17-Boys’ 400 metres in 56.36 seconds and third in the 200 metres, to finish the day with 43 points.

Browne dominated the Under-13 Division, winning the 400 metres in 67.10 seconds and the 200 metres in 27.18 seconds. He took the silver in the 100 metres in 14.06 seconds. Miller was second in the 400 metres in 65.55 seconds.

Though the title was taken from the Hawks, they were impressive on track with the help of the talented and promising athletes Shemia Odaine and Brieanna Boyce.

Odaine competed in nine events, capturing the victrix ludorum title with 79 points in the Under-20 Girls Division. She won the 100 metres in 12.48 secs, 200 metres in 25.16 secs, the 400 metres in 60.47 secs, long jump, 800 metres and 1 500 metres. She was second in the shot put and third in the javelin.

Boyce, who was last year’s victrix ludorum at the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletic Championships, gained 55 points and shattered two records.

She erased Odaine’s 2015 record of 26.47 seconds in the 200 metres and former national athlete Peta Smith’s 1998 record of one minute 1.73 seconds in the 400 metres, clocking 61.33 secs.

She also won the 100 metres in 13.14 seconds, long jump and was third in the javelin. (RG)
