Senator Maxine McClean appeared upbeat yesterday in Parliament Yard, nine days after a “traumatic” experience of being assaulted and robbed at an automatic teller machine (ATM).
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Leader of Public Business in the Senate, was smartly turned out in navy trouser suit with matching handbag and shoes, for the first day of Senate debate on the Appropriation Bill 2018.
“I refuse to let a criminal paralyse me with fear,” she had said after the incident, and yesterday she portrayed that tenacity as she strode across the courtyard to the Upper Chamber.
McClean was attacked by a masked man on Saturday, February 10, around 3:30 p.m. as she was using the ATM at the University Drive, Black Rock, St Michael branch of the Royal Bank of Canada.
A police report said the bandit struck the minister on the side of the face with his hand, grabbed her bag and fled.
It was at that same ATM on July 17 last year, that 58-year-old Colleen Beresdean Payne, of Lodge Hill, was robbed and killed. (GC)
