Alleyne wants to rebuild community

First-time Democratic Labour Party (DLP) candidate for St Michael East, Nicholas Alleyne, is on a campaign to win the seat and the hearts of the people during the upcoming General Election.

On Saturday evening, he officially opened his constituency office at My Lord’s Hill, a stone’s throw away from Licorish Village, where he grew up. The newcomer promised to bring fresh ideas and to help rebuild the community.

He said his efforts had already included repaving the nearby steep Break Neck Hill, and a plan to bring 24-hour activity to the area from the Welches Post Office to the Norman Niles Roundabout.

Alleyne said his office space would be a great resource equipped with a reading room to host homework sessions on Saturdays for students.

It would also be a business incubator where small businesses would be given an opportunity, through the use of the Internet and computers and, if necessary, receive help preparing financial statements.

The opening was attended by a number of Government ministers, including Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite and Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy. Both threw their support behind Alleyne and criticised the Barbados Labour Party incumbent Trevor Prescod for being out of fresh ideas.

Alleyne accused Prescod of not having a constituency office and charged that Prescod was upset that he was trying to do better for those in the area.

“When I looked around the area, we truly need the transformation . . . and I think the people need to permanently retire Trevor Prescod this evening,” he said. (TG)
