Clean sweeps by defending champion Colin “Lightning” Bradshaw and Adam Mallalieu have placed them at the top of the Barbados Karting Association’s Chefette Championship as drivers prepare for the second round on March 4 at Bushy Park.
Bradshaw dominated the EasyKart 60cc class, winning all three races to end with a maximum 75 points, and also turned in the fastest lap of the day of one minute 09.142 seconds at a speed of 73.557 kilometres per hour.
Mallalieu made his presence felt in the EasyKart 125cc light class, turning in a similar performance as drivers disposed of the opening round under brilliant sunshine last weekend as he and Bradshaw both scored trifecta, pole, fastest lap and three race wins – a perfect day of racing for the young drivers.
Moving up from the EK100cc Junior class along with Graeme Bradshaw to do battle with last year’s class champion Joshua Maloney and regular hot shoe Benjamin Moore, Yamaha 100cc champion Andrew Croney and Graeme Finlayson he gave notice of his intensions from early and ended at the top of the class.
He had returned a “hot lap” in qualifying to take pole from Benjamin Moore by 0.702 seconds followed by Josh Maloney, a further one minute .021 seconds and drove impressive all day and was never challenged for the top spot.
But the battle for the lesser places was occupied by Maloney, Moore and Graeme Finlayson.
Drivers such as former champion Christian Hinds, Calvin Bartlett and Theo Howard were not able to race and two competitors, Justin Maloney and Brian Stuart, contested the honours with Maloney getting the better of Moore who had to contend with mechanical issues during the day’s action. (TT)
