A BRITISH WOMAN has turned the grief she felt when she lost her husband into joy for hundreds of others.
Last Tuesday, Iris Trebble donated over 100 knitted garments, inclusive of hats, blankets and other clothing, to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
She said she learnt how to knit many years ago, but it was only after losing her husband about three months ago that she used knitting as a form of therapy.
The items were presented to consultant paediatrician Dr Clyde Cave at the hospital on Martindales Road after some encouragement by her daughter-in-law Lorraine Trebble, who was a nurse on the Labour Ward.
Cave said he was grateful for the addition to the unit, adding that the clothing would go a long way in assisting premature babies.
“Babies in the NICU have special needs, but one common thread is that we have to pay special attention to them, maintaining their temperature. Premature babies and sick babies have to keep warm to enable their healing. Therefore they require special clothing, sometimes in special sizes,” he added. (PR/TG)
