The man was obsessed with him. That was the excuse given by Tremaine Dario “Pepper” Yarde when he made his second appearance on an assault charge in as many weeks in the District “A” Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.

And once again, the 24-year-old was remanded to HMP Dodds. Yarde, of St Michael, denied assaulting Vincent Davis on March 19.

He was also charged with, but was not required to plead to, having been charged with assault, he escaped from Central Police Station without the use of force on March 19.

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Samuel Hinds, who objected to bail, said the accused was back in court after being granted bail on another matter. He added he was charged with a similar matter.

Hinds said the charge of escaping lawful custody showed the accused was a flight risk.

“This man obsessed over me,” Yarde told the court in his plea for bail. “I now get a job. I now start to catch back myself and I now come home last week and I don’t want to go back up.

“Even if you put me on a curfew or a bond . . . I don’t want to go back to prison,” he pleaded.

In relation to the escape charge, he told the court: “You know how some people is don’t like gays. The way them was treating me, them was disrespecting me. Them was telling me to run.”

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant remanded him until April 17. (HLE)
